    Lip Reduction

What is Lip reduction surgery ?

Lip reduction surgery is cosmetic surgery procedure, is designed to bring down the size of the lips so they are in proportion with the rest of your face.

Who is ideal lip reduction candidate ?

    • Patients with naturally large lips, may feel self-conscious about their appearance
    • Patients are unhappy with the results of a permanent lip augmentation procedure done in the past.
    • Patients should be in good health with realistic expectations.

How lip reduction surgery is performed ?

The lip reduction procedure can be performed under local anesthesia on day-care basis. Sometimes, it may be done in general anesthesia in anxious patients or it is combined with other procedure. During surgery we create a horizontal incision on the inside of the lip and removes excess fat and tissue from the lip and close with absorbable stitches. The lip reduction procedure can be done on the upper and lower lip to improve the patient’s appearance and to balance facial features.

What are the lip reduction procedure risks ?

The side effects of surgery include pain, swelling, bruising, and redness in the treatment area; which usually disappear within a few days of surgery. Few rare risks are an infection or anesthesia.

How is lip reduction surgery recovery ?

In initial postoperative period, patients are advised to take pain medication and apply ice bags to the lips to limit pain and swelling. Nowadays we use dissolvable sutures so stitches do not need to be removed. Patients can usually resume his work within a week of surgery. Final results are appreciated at about two to three months after surgery.
