What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a procedure to enhance facial harmony and the proportions of your nose. It can also improve impaired breathing due to structural defects in the nose.
Which deformities can be corrected with Rhinoplasty?
- Nasal asymmetry
- Nasal tip deformity like i.e. enlarged or bulbous, hooked and drooping tip
- Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned
- Broad Nose with wide nostrils
- Visible humps or depressions on the nasal bridge
- Deviated septum leading impaired breathing
Who is ideal candidate for Rhinoplasty?
The ideal candidate who has realistic expectation and positive attitude, who has completed his facial growth and physically healthy.
What is required for preoperative preparation for Rhinoplasty?
- Routine blood test, Preanaesthesia check up
- CT face if breathing difficulty
- Bleeding, Infection, numbness, Poor wound healing or scarring,
- Swelling and difficulty in breathing
- Unsatisfactory nasal appearance
- Possibility of revision surgery
Nasal septal perforation (rare)Stop smoking and medication which cause bleeding i.e. aspirin, herbal medicines.
What is postop protocol and how is recovery?
During postoperative period a splint and/or packing will be placed to support and protect the new structures during initial healing.
Swelling may be coming and going and more during morning hours for few months following rhinoplasty surgery.
What are the risks of Rhinoplasty?
In healthy adult the risks due to surgery is remote but there are mandatory to explain surgical and anaesthesia risk.
When will Rhinoplasty results appreciated?
While initial swelling subsides in a few weeks, gradually you may be able to appreciate changes of your nose but final outcome may take up to a year for new nasal contour to fully refine. The results of rhinoplasty surgery will be long-lasting.
